Richland Library Main’s 200,000 sf flagship originally opened in 1992, and the four-story renovation represents the first application of the Library As Studio methodology. MSS led the visioning, programming, interior design, and served as client liaison. Located in the heart of Columbia, SC’s business, university, and entertainment district, this flagship re-invention provides the community with a variety of creative spaces strengthening community connections and catalyzing Columbia’s creative economy. Serving a diverse population of college students, makers, entrepreneurs, bibliophiles, history buffs, families and active teens, Richland Library Main’s dramatic interiors demonstrates the power of design to elevate customer experiences and create conditions for all styles of learning to flourish!

The MSS process-driven approach driven by our library’s strategic goals, community’s aspirations, and Creative Placemaking prepared our communities and our staff to create experiences for all styles of learning to flourish!
